Volunteer management software for small nonprofits: six tools with prices checked

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-03

Quick answerFor a small nonprofit, start with the free plans from POINT or Golden. VolunteerLocal and Civic Champs are the lowest paid entries. Less Annoying CRM is a contact manager and does not schedule shifts.

Six volunteer management tools and their entry prices

For a small nonprofit on a tight budget, the best volunteer management software to try first is one with a free plan, POINT or Golden, because both state unlimited volunteers at $0. If you need more than they include, VolunteerLocal and Civic Champs have the lowest paid entry prices we could confirm. Prices were read on each vendor's own pricing page on 3 October 2026 and can change.

The job volunteer management software does

These tools publish opportunities, let people sign up for shifts, send reminders, check volunteers in and add up hours. That is a different job from a CRM, which stores people and the history of your contact with them. Our CRM vs scheduling explainer covers the split in more detail.

A small program may need both: a place for sign-ups and hours, and a place to note that someone asked to be called back in spring. Some of the tools above keep contact records too. POINT lists event, contact and group management on its free plan.

What 12 months costs on each paid entry plan

Twelve-month cost on the lowest paid plan, annual billing, computed from the prices above
Product and plan12-month cost
Civic Champs, 1 to 49 active volunteers$588 plus the setup fee
VolunteerLocal Discover$600
POINT Pro$1,188
Golden Professional$1,200
Bloomerang Volunteer$1,428 or more
VolunteerHub Plus$1,716 or more, plus the setup fee

Civic Champs and VolunteerLocal are close at the entry level. Civic Champs is $12 lower before its setup fee, and its price is only for programs under 50 active volunteers. With 50 to 249 it is $888 a year, above VolunteerLocal Discover. POINT and Golden cost nothing if their free plans cover your needs.

Where Less Annoying CRM fits and where it does not

Less Annoying CRM is a general contact manager at $15 per user per month. Its product pages describe contacts, groups, tasks, a calendar, pipelines and intake forms. They do not describe shift sign-up, volunteer self-scheduling, check-in or an hours log.

It fits the relationship side of a volunteer program: an inquiry pipeline, a call-back task, notes from an orientation chat, a group for each team. It does not replace any tool in the table above. If you have to choose only one and shifts are the pain, choose a volunteer tool. If the pain is people slipping through after first contact, a CRM helps more. Our first response guide and follow-up capacity guide cover that side.

A pick for each type of small program

  • Under 50 volunteers, no budget: POINT Free or Golden Basic.
  • One or two big events a year: VolunteerLocal at $200 per event.
  • On-site check-in matters: Civic Champs, or POINT Pro for kiosks and QR codes.
  • Already on Bloomerang for donors: Bloomerang Volunteer, for the data sync.
  • Mostly logging hours for reports: see our volunteer tracking software page, which compares hour logging and sign-in.
  • Mostly following up with people: a contact manager such as Less Annoying CRM, alongside a free sign-up tool.
